"Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; the scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of justice. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of joy above Your companions" (Psalm 45:6-7 NASB)
This passage is referenced and applied to Yeshua by the author of Hebrews in Hebrews 1:8-9. Many assume that because the author uses this text, which seemingly refers to the king as "God," and applies it to Yeshua, it indicates that Yeshua is "God" and therefore equal to the Father. However, there are several issues with this interpretation. For a detailed analysis of the text and our understanding of its function in the book of Hebrews, please see our article on Hebrews 1:8-9.
